Retreats at the centre in Harrogate, North Yorkshire
We run 4 retreats a year to explore Ayurveda and Yoga and one retreat on Yoga and the Chakras -please see below.
Ayurveda is the ancient system of Indian healing and means the “science or wisdom of life” it is the original Functional medicine as it includes many topics, health, diet, herbs, massage, body therapies, oils, food classification, body types. Ayurveda places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health through close attention to balance in one’s life
Knowledge of Ayurveda enables one to understand how to create this balance of body, mind and how to make lifestyle changes to bring about and maintain this balance.
The emphasis on prevention is paramount and given the over-burdened NHS, beset with increasing chronic health problems which in western medicine are very often at best treated, with drugs and surgery and only usually when the health issue has become more of a chronic problem
While Ayurveda looks at the root of the problem and underlying causes and when the body is just going out of balance, as its then its far easier to treat with healthy lifestyle choice
You will also have time to enjoy the spa town of Harrogate and the beautiful surrounding Yorkshire Dales. The retreats typically run from Friday 4pm to Sunday after lunch with exception to the August bank holiday retreat which runs for an extra day and finishes on the Monday.
We offer residential and non-residential options. Residential options include single rooms or shared rooms. The living accommodation is part of the Chris and Anne-Maries family home where the Centre is based. But if you prefer non- residential there are plenty of other options based in Harrogate close to the Centre.

Chakra Yoga Retreat
October 28th – October 30th 2022, from £275 non residential, residential options also available
Tantra is an ancient spiritual pathway from India which gave birth to Yoga. ‘Tantra’ refers to the infinite Divine Energy which permeates all of life and teaches methods for liberating energy and consciousness within the human body for us to achieve union with the Supreme reality.
In this retreat James teaches Yoga from a tantric perspective which focuses primarily on the chakras; the subtle energy centres of the body.
According to Yoga all trauma from the past which we are not able to process is stored in the body. The 7 Chakras (physically the 7 major junctions on the central nervous system) are the energy centres in the energetic body that store and organise bio-energy and information for specific areas of the body allowing effective healthy functioning.
If one has experienced early trauma the chakra will be blocked partially effecting the functioning of that area of the body leading to emotional and health issues. In this retreat James will teach you about the different chakras, the psycho-emotional components relating to each chakra and how we can start to clear and heal the charka using yoga and other methods. Its a powerful in depth retreat providing a template for personal healing and transformation.

Other Non UK retreats
Each year we now receive numerous invitations to run other retreats in other non UK destinations
However, we feel the experience at Ahimsa Gardens is so outstanding and is the most beneficial on all levels, so that we now make this a yearly or twice yearly retreat.
As a UK Ayurvedic centre it is not possible for us to provide full Panchakarma, but with our partnership with Ahimsa we can now offer a complete authentic Ayurvedic experience. With the additional, wonderful benefit of the help and advice of Dr. Daisy Kuchinad ( an integrative doctor and owner of Ahimsa) and her handpicked team of two Ayurvedic doctors and their therapists
