Training Structure
Location: Yorkshire Centre for Wellbeing, Harrogate
Dates: One weekend a month + online Zoom sessions from November 2025 to May 2026
Format: In-person + online + self-study
What You’ll Learn
“Tantra is not a rejection of the world, but a sacred re-visioning of all experience as divine.”
— James Gopala Burford

In this training, you will gain a deep understanding of chakra-based yoga, while learning Yin postures specifically aligned with each chakra. The course also explores meditation, breathwork, mantra, and subtle body practices, along with Tantric anatomy and energetic mapping. You’ll develop confidence in class planning, sequencing, and delivering transformative chakra-informed yoga sessions.

Kashmir Shaivism Introduction
In this lecture excerpt, James introduces the foundational principles of Kashmir Shaivism, a profound non-dual Tantric tradition. He explores the dynamic interplay of Shiva and Shakti, the pulsation of consciousness known as Spanda, and how these philosophical insights can transform the way we experience and teach yoga. Tantra and Kashmir Shaivism form for the foundation of traditional hatha yoga and this course.
An embodied exploration of stillness and presence.
Chakra-Themed Yoga Class
Experience how each chakra is activated through movement.
Experience a short flow guided by James, integrating chakra-based movement and breath. This video captures a segment of a live class focused on Manipura, the solar plexus chakra—associated with confidence, vitality, and personal power.
You’ll see how each posture is carefully chosen to stimulate and balance this energy centre through breath, movement, and intention. James offers grounding guidance throughout, helping students connect to their inner strength and clarity. This is a powerful glimpse into the style and depth of chakra-themed yoga taught in the course.
“When we activate Manipura, we awaken the fire within—the place of will, discipline, and authentic self-expression.”
— James Gopala Burford

Heart Chakra Talk
A gentle reflection on the heart centre and compassion.
In this warm and personal reflection, James explores the emotional and energetic qualities of Anahata, the heart chakra. He shares insights on the importance of compassion, vulnerability, and connection, as well as the inner obstacles we often face when learning to love more openly.
This talk gently guides us toward a deeper understanding of how yoga can help us soften the heart and expand into love. While the audio is not studio quality, the sincerity and power of the message shine through.
“When we move from the heart, we remember that love is not a feeling—it is a state of being.”
— James Gopala Burford
The course will take place over five weekends from November 2025 to May 2026, with in-person sessions Sundays (10:30 AM–4:00 PM), totalling 38.5 in person contact hours. In addition, there will be 30 contact hours delivered online via Zoom on Wednesday evenings (7:00–9:00 PM), 7 hours of journaling for each chakra plus 25 non-contact hours for self-study, assignments, and home practice—bringing the total to 100 hours. The course is designed to accommodate those with other commitments, offering a blend of in-person and remote learning across six months. Online sessions provide flexibility for integration and reflection between modules.
